After i’ve posted tips on how to improve your website, now it’s the time to find out what should you be careful at. There definitely are some things that can ruin your work and make your readers leave.
Look and design
Take care what design or theme do you use, because it may scare the readers or it may be a hard job for them to find out what are they interested in. Don’t place too many animated gifs, weird images and unpleasant font.
Also, don’t fulfill your website with ads, but try to blend them and place fewer, not to disturb the visitors.
Content
I will not talk about the quality of the content, because that definitely has to be high, but the formatting.
Don’t post blocks of text, 3 pages long, because the readers will get bored. Don’t post when you remember, meaning you post 3 posts today and 2 after three weeks, but try to post them regularly. Also, don’t post too many posts, because the readers will get bored. You should find out how many is too many in your niche.
Put yourself in your readers shoes
This is the most useful tip, because there may be other issues that can scare the visitor i might have missed and you have to check your website to find them. In essence, try not to use malicious scripts, pop-ups, expandable flash ads, floaters or anything that might disturb your visitor from it’s try to read the content.

I maintain 3 blogs and I’ve found that each has it’s own distinct audience and need. It’s no surprise that putting myself in my readers shoes has been the most successful approach blogging. Asking the question “why would anyone want to visit my blog?” is essential.

Your tip about posting regularly is a good one. As a blogger I often get hit with some sudden inspiration and find myself writing loads and loads of material and on other days I stare at the keyboard and nothing happens.
If you use Wordpress you can edit the timestamp to publish posts for a later date which is realy useful for those situations. Write when you feel inspired, save up some posts and then just pusblish them on a schedule.

Thanks for the great tips. It’s hard to figure out how much to write, and how often to post. This post is a good reminder on the fact that we each need to figure it out, and then post accordingly!

I totally agree that the looks and design can scared visitors or can bring them back. I find many sites with a hideous design. Definitely these webmasters should hire a designer.

Looks and design must be the number 1 priority by all bloggers. How will you attract readers if your blog presentation is so boring?!? It really matters a lot.

Wonderful tips. It is always hard to figure out which way tot go when so many offer their different ideas. How many posts, what best SEO, what best lay out, what best promotion, which is better PR or alexa? The list of what ifs and whys and which ways goes on an on. To each blog and each site are all different and the blood that flows inside them is different so each muct find their own set of rules that work. What works for one may not work for another. Trial and error has always been my teacher with my sites over the past 11 years. Thank you for the great posts and the dofollow.

Good tips, I hate reading articles that are just a block of text. Writing content for people who scan is the way to go.

I never thought that random posting is a bad idea, but it makes sense once you think about it. If someone doesn’t know when to expect your post they don’t know when to check back and you lose reader loyalty. Thanks for the tip.
